Department of Electronics and Communication Systems


The Head of the Department is Mr. K. SAMBATH, M.Sc.,M.Phil. He has put in 12 years of service as a teaching faculty and has attended training programs in the latest fields of electronics like Embedded Systems, VLSI and DSP. He has presented many papers in conferences and conducted many workshops, seminars, symposiums and certificate courses. He is pursuing Ph.D in Thin Film Technology, his paper on RTOS based Engine Control Unit has been adjudged as the best paper in a UGC sponsored National Conference.

With a view to cater to the extensive demand for graduates in the field of Electronics and Communications, the Department was established in the year 2005 with B.Sc and M.Sc courses. SKASC is a pioneer among colleges in Bharathiar University in starting M.Sc Electronics and Communication Systems. The vision of the Department is to emerge as a nationally renowned center of excellence in the field of Electronics and Communications among the Arts and Sciences Colleges, by creating strong cadre of professionals who will become inspiring performers, capable of attaining high standards as per the industrial and social needs.
 
CURRICULUM : The B.Sc syllabus starts from the fundamentals of Electronics to the designing of Electronic circuits using Microcontrollers and offers specialization in Communication Systems like Microwave, Fiber Optics, Digital, Cellular, Satellite and Network Communications. The course also offers Diploma in Computer Technology which includes programming in C, C++, VP, Java, Internet and Computer Architecture. The Department also offers Certificate Courses based on the industrial needs.

The M.Sc syllabus lays emphasis on the latest fields of electronics like MEMS, Power Electronics, Signals and Systems, Embedded Systems with C Programming and RTOS, VLSI, DSP, Digital Image Processing, and offers specialization in Communication Systems like Telecommunications, Wireless Communications, Mobile Computing, OFC, Computer and Network Communications. The course also offers Diploma in Information Technology which includes programming in .NET, RDBMS, and Web Technology.

LABORATORIES: On par with the reputed Engineering Colleges, the Department has the state-of-the-art laboratories with 10,000 sq.ft., housed in a separate three storeyed building with round the clock lab facility and has a sound technical backup from highly experienced and committed faculty team.  DSP, VLSI, Embedded Systems, Electronic Circuits, Communications, and R&D laboratories are equipped with most modern industrial standard equipments, DSOs, licensed C Compilers, MATLAB, RTOS, Internet access and individual PCs with UPS and AC facilities. The Department has publications in International Journals and presented many papers in the National and International conferences. The Department subscribes 21 periodicals which includes National and International Journals.

Special lectures, Industrial Visits, Seminars, Workshops, and Symposiums at the State level and National level are a regular feature in the ECS Department, to meet eminent speakers and industrialist to exchange ideas. The Department also signed a MoU with BSNL to create more synergy between industry and institution. The Department secures University Ranks consistently and made a land mark achievement in the Placement. The Department has a very active Students’ Forums ECSNOVA and ECSNOVA Smirithi to represent current students and ECS Department Alumni.  The ECSNOVA UTSAV is the annual festival of ECS department which is unique and grand platform to facilitate mentoring of the unique gathering across the State through wide variety of competitions and events.
