Dr.(Mrs.) S. Maleeka Begum, M.Sc., M.Phil., Ph.D., is the HOD of Biotechnology and she has 12 years of teaching experience. Her field of interest are Microbial biotechnology and environmental biotechnology. She published 9 papers, of which 5 are in international journals. She has organized 4 seminars, 2 conferences and 2 workshops. She has presented 7 papers in international conferences and 11 papers in national conferences. She has worked for a project entitled “Ex situ conservation of rare and endemic plants” sponsored by the Ministry of Environment and Forest, New Delhi. She is the proud recipient of Junior Research Fellowship of National Environmental Engineering Research Institute, Nagpur.
The department houses a well-established green house, a plant tissue culture lab, well maintained animal house and spacious air-conditioned laboratories. It also has state-of-the-art facilities to do basic researches within the department. It includes high-tech instruments like refrigerated centrifuge, hot air oven, deep freezers, cold rooms, Tran illuminator, electrophoric apparatus and shakers. The facilities that are available to the students are superfluous and they are permitted to function individually in the lab. Bio-technology course ensures further research and development in latest areas and gives a plethora of opportunities to do research and project work at national and international level on fermentation, tissue culture, stem cells research, cloning etc.
