Department of Catering Science and Hotel Management
   
Mr. P. Ramaraj, DHMCT, MTM, is the HOD i/c and has 10 years of teaching experience. The Department refers to all establishments concerned with provision of food, drinks, accommodation and services. It is inclusive of food preservation, food science, accommodation, operation of front office, reception and service.. The Department is a member of Hotel Educators and Recruiters Association (HERA). Students are sent for Industrial exposure training to leading hotel chains for 22 weeks.
The Department is housed in a three-storied building of 42,000 sq.ft. with state-of-art facility reflecting the style of a five star hotel. It has several labs, which include Basic Training Kitchen, Advanced Training Kitchen, Quantity Training Kitchen, Bakery, Air-conditioned Training Restaurant, Advanced Training Restaurant, Air-Conditioned Model Suite Room, Food Lab, Food Testing Lab, Training Laundry and Training Health Spa. A high-class training is provided replicating five star hotel standards as per International Standards. A glorious future with immense opportunities awaits a catering graduate. Plump jobs such as Chefs, Managers of restaurants, Supervisors of house keeping, front office, Receptionists, etc can be availed. A position in a cruise merchant ship can also be opted. Unbelievable perks along with the income and savings that guarantees a bright future are assured. To fulfil the dreams of the students a separate block is being constructed reflecting the style of a five star hotel. A kind of high class training is provided replicating the star hotels, even before the completion of their degree course. |

Training Kitchens
 
Food production and presentation share equal importance in Hotel Industry. The Department facilitates students to inculcate this basic quality with well planned and equipped Basic
Training Kitchen, Quantity Training Kitchen, Advanced Training Kitchen
and Bakery.
Training Restaurant
 
Service etiquettes is an essential part of success in Catering Industry. The Department has well-equipped and furnished Training Restaurant of high standards to make this essential Quality – “a habit” for all trainees.
Mock Bar
 
A bar is an extended part of food service. Serving beverages is also an art. The Department has sophisticated Training Bar to enable the students to upgrade their skills in serving beverages.
Training Front Office
 
Receiving the guest and looking forward to their needs and comfort plays an important role. Students are trained in this aspect and their knowledge on arrival and departure procedures is upgraded. The Department has well furnished Lobby, Reception and Reservation Desk for this purpose.
Suite
 
House keeping is a related field of catering science. To excel in this field the students are trained in a well furnished Model Suite of five star standards.
Spa
 
As an innovative venture an Exclusive Spa (First of its kind in Catering Institutions) with various facilities like Massage Parlour, Jacuzzi and Steam Bath has been designed. This would enable the students to meet the requirements of international standards. Their knowledge in a related field would make them better qualified.
