Prof. P. Baba Gnanakumar, M.Com., M.Phil., PGDCA., PGDFM., Head of the Department, has 15 years of teaching experience and has presented 35 papers in both national and international conferences.  He has received best research paper award in Indian Institute of Management.

Under his able guidance, the Department recognizes the demands of the emerging business environment. It organizes Surveys, National Seminars, Business Quiz, Youth Parliament, EIP, for developing the skills of the students. The Department also offers training in Tally.  It has a tie-up with Indian Institute of Banking and Finance, Mumbai to offer Diploma course in Banking.  Students should compulsorily participate in seminars and conferences organized by CII, FICCI and Chamber of Commerce. Students participate in social research programmes also.

The Department of Commerce with Computer Application has christened its association as COMPUCOM. The Association has done commendable work in bringing out the innate talent and skills of its budding youth creatively. The Department has the distinction of conducting an array of activities like Seminars, Workshops, Projects, Business Quiz, Paper Presentation, Students Participation in Workshops and Seminars, Youth Parliament to name a few. This facilitates in widening their horizon in the realm of business as well as providing ample scope to acquire the desired acumen and entrepreneurial skills. The Department is privileged to enumerate and record its myriad activities in its annual Magazine Exuberance – the power of youth.
